Don Hilsabeck died 7/20/1989, of a heart attack, at the age of 55. He was called Big Daddy for his big size, but also for his big heart. People still come up to me 24 years later and tell me how much they loved my wonderful dad and miss him. That means so much, as he touched a lot of lives.
We came from Blairstown, a small community, everyone knows everyone. He loved life, always had a positive attitude. He would help the less fortunate, always making them feel important. he loved driving the school bus for Benton Community he loved “his kids”, they were all special to him. He was a dog lover, always had his best friend in his truck. He enjoyed riding his red Honda scooter, and his golf cart. He was the best story teller and could tell jokes and laugh all day. He loved to play the piano and sing. He always made life fun, never a dull time with my dad.
He was proud to be a Veteran, serving in the army, stationed in Germany. He loved his family, and was crazy about his grandkids. My wish for you, who did not know him, to take a few lessons from my dad.
- Live each day to the fullest, be happy, make each day count. It just could be your last.
- Please call 911 if you are having chest pain. DO NOT be in denial. My dad didn’t want to bother the amulance crew that early Sunday Morning.
- Each day do some act of kindness for someone less fortunate than yourself. If we all would help one person, the world would be a better place, just like when my dad was alive.
