Cindy Truax-Garwood was born on February 25, 1957 to Larry and Janice (Bauer) Truax. Cindy graduated
from Washington High School in 1975. She attended University of Northern Iowa for a few years prior to
meeting the love of her life, Sam. She and Sam married in 1986 and began to start a life together with
their two children, Lisa and Jackie.
They resided in Vinton for the remainder of Cindy’s life where she was committed to 20 years of
employment at the Abbe Center and most recently at Benton County Transportation.
Cindy always had a zest for life and saw the beauty in the small things. She loved watching the
Vinton Vikettes and Iowa Hawkeye basketball games as well as her cousin racing at Benton County Speedway.
She loved gardening, biking, summers in Wisconsin, butterflies and most of all spending time with her
grandchildren, Ashtynn and Shae.
She fought through breast cancer in 2006 with ease, recovered and flourished for nine years prior to
developing lung cancer in 2015. She lost her hard-fought battle in July 2016. Although she is not
physically with us anymore, her legacy of joy, positivity and love remain in all who knew her.
